Water Safety Instructor
This blended course, which certifies participants to teach swimming and water safety, combines online learning with in-person training on stroke development, risk management, and lesson planning.
Requirements:
- Must be 16+ by course end
- Demonstrate proficiency in front crawl, back crawl, breaststroke, elementary backstroke, sidestroke, and butterfly
- Maintain a back float or scull for one minute in deep water
- Tread water for one minute
Online coursework covers water safety, stroke mechanics, and lesson planning. In-person sessions focus on skill demonstrations, practice teaching, and peer evaluations.
Upon completion, participants can teach Red Cross swim programs, including parent-child, preschool, and adult aquatics.
