American Heart Association: Basic Life Support
The AHA’s BLS course trains participants to recognize life-threatening emergencies, perform CPR on all age groups, use an AED, and respond to cardiovascular crises. With hands-on practice and real-time instructor feedback, this course follows the latest AHA guidelines for CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC). Certification is valid for two years.
Lifeguard Training – Blended Learning
Prerequisites and Blended Learning Requirement
To participate in the American Red Cross Lifeguarding course, candidates must be at least 15 years old on or before the final day of class. Prior to the in-person sessions, all candidates are required to complete the online Blended Learningcomponent, which includes interactive lessons, video content, and knowledge checks.
This portion must be completed before the first day of in-person training, and proof of completion (certificate or screenshot) must be presented upon arrival. Additionally, candidates must successfully pass a pre-course swimming skills assessment, which includes:
- Swim 150 yards, tread water for two minutes (no arms), then swim 50 yards
- Swim 20 yards, retrieve a 10-pound brick from 7–10 feet deep, swim back holding the brick, and exit the pool within 1 minute, 40 seconds
Failure to complete the online coursework or pass the in-water prerequisites will result in disqualification from the course without a refund. Candidates are strongly encouraged to review the physical requirements and prepare accordingly.
Lifeguarding Instructor
The Lifeguarding Instructor course trains instructor candidates to teach American Red Cross Lifeguarding courses including Lifeguarding Shallow Water Lifeguarding Aquatic Attraction Lifeguarding Waterpark Skills Waterfront Skills CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Bloodborne Pathogens Training. This class is taught in a blended learning format and the online portion (accessed via mobile desktop or tablet) must be completed prior to attending the first in-person session of the instructor course. Prerequisites: 1. Minimum age: 17 years 2. Possess a current Red Cross certificate for Lifeguarding with CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and First Aid 3. Ability to successfully demonstrate all Lifeguarding and CPR skills including a precourse assessment to perform a water rescue (submerged drowning) extrication single rescuer CPR for 3 minutes.
Lifeguarding Instructor/ Instructor Trainer Review
Course Purpose The purpose of this course of skills practice, skill drills, and skill polish is two-fold. Practice, improve and polish the lifeguarding skills to ensure instructors and instructor trainers can perform the lifeguarding skills and recognize correct and incorrect skill performance. Ensure the consistency of the Red Cross program skills and knowledge across the instructors and instructor trainers through feedback and evaluation from the practicing Lifeguard Instructor Trainers. Instructor trainers should be able to provide global reminders about each skill set and then conduct practice in a drill format, staggering the participants with all the instructors/instructor trainers participating. Instructor trainers must be in a position to see all participants, provide global and individual feedback, repeating skills as necessary to polish skill performance. This course is not meant to be conducted as a test but to polish skills and to redirect as needed to ensure consistency with the current Red Cross Lifeguarding program. Each candidate must demonstrate as a primary rescuer and assist the rescuer at least once for the multiple-rescuer response scenarios. To be successful, participants should be able to perform skills to the standard by completing the practice session. Participants may exit the water using a ladder if necessary.
Lifeguarding Review
Renew your Red Cross Lifeguarding certification with this blended course. Complete online coursework (i.e., lifeguarding skills, emergency response procedures, and first aid) before attending an in-person skills evaluation. Please note, you must have a valid (less than 30 day) Red Cross certification to participate in this course. YMCA, Ellis, and Starguards must take the full course or crossover course to become Red Cross certified.
Prerequisites:
- Current Red Cross or equivalent lifeguarding certification
- Age 15+ by course end
- Swim 200 yards, retrieve a 10-pound brick from 10 feet, and tread water for two minutes using only legs
Upon completion, participants earn a two-year certification renewal.
Red Cross Babysitters Training
Enhance your babysitting skills with Red Cross training to become a safe and dependable caregiver. This course is perfect for both beginners and experienced babysitters, covering essential childcare basics, safety protocols, and emergency response techniques.
Optional 2-hour First Aid and CPR/AED training is also available. This session focuses on recognizing emergencies and responding effectively, including techniques such as chest compressions, rescue breaths, choking management, bleeding control, and EpiPen use. Completing this training prepares students to take a full certification course.
Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor
This course will train instructor candidates to teach basic-level American Red Cross First Aid CPR and AED courses. In order to participate in this course you must possess a current basic-level American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED (or higher level) certification or equivalent and be at least 16 years of age on the last day of the instructor course. Upon registration it is important that you review and follow the directions on the e-mail attachment sent with your registration confirmation. This is a blended learning course consisting of online content a skills session and classroom segments. Online material must be completed prior to attending the classroom activities. Red Cross: Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED
This course trains participants to respond to first aid, breathing, and cardiac emergencies for all ages. It meets OSHA, workplace, and regulatory certification requirements.
Red Cross: Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED – Blended
This course, which meets workplace and certification requirements, covers CPR, the use of an AED, and first aid for all ages. Learn to recognize and respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries, and sudden illnesses. The blended format includes online coursework and in-person practice with manikins and AED trainers. Certification is valid for two years.
Red Cross: Basic Life Support
This course teaches CPR for all ages, airway management with barrier and bag-mask devices, the use of an AED, and choking relief. Designed for both licensed and non-licensed healthcare professionals, the course lasts 4 to 4.5 hours.
Red Cross: Basic Life Support- Blended
The 2021 Basic Life Support (BLS) course provides healthcare providers and public safety professionals the knowledge and skills necessary to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies in adult child and infant patients. This class is taught in a blended learning format and the online portion (accessed via mobile desktop or tablet) must be completed prior to attending the instructor-led skills session. Upon successful completion of the course learners will receive a 2-year Basic Life Support digital certificate with anytime anywhere access to certificate and training history.In support of improving patient care American Red Cross is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.The American Red Cross is an accredited provider of continuing education by the Commission on Accreditation for Prehospital Continuing Education.
Water Safety Instructor
This blended course, which certifies participants to teach swimming and water safety, combines online learning with in-person training on stroke development, risk management, and lesson planning.
Requirements:
- Must be 16+ by course end
- Demonstrate proficiency in front crawl, back crawl, breaststroke, elementary backstroke, sidestroke, and butterfly
- Maintain a back float or scull for one minute in deep water
- Tread water for one minute
Online coursework covers water safety, stroke mechanics, and lesson planning. In-person sessions focus on skill demonstrations, practice teaching, and peer evaluations.
Upon completion, participants can teach Red Cross swim programs, including parent-child, preschool, and adult aquatics.
