Lifeguard Training – Blended Learning

Prerequisites and Blended Learning Requirement

To participate in the American Red Cross Lifeguarding course, candidates must be at least 15 years old on or before the final day of class. Prior to the in-person sessions, all candidates are required to complete the online Blended Learningcomponent, which includes interactive lessons, video content, and knowledge checks.

This portion must be completed before the first day of in-person training, and proof of completion (certificate or screenshot) must be presented upon arrival. Additionally, candidates must successfully pass a pre-course swimming skills assessment, which includes:

  • Swim 150 yards, tread water for two minutes (no arms), then swim 50 yards
  • Swim 20 yards, retrieve a 10-pound brick from 7–10 feet deep, swim back holding the brick, and exit the pool within 1 minute, 40 seconds

Failure to complete the online coursework or pass the in-water prerequisites will result in disqualification from the course without a refund. Candidates are strongly encouraged to review the physical requirements and prepare accordingly.
